Guys seem to steal girls stuff to try and get their attention, or for that to be how the engage in conversation with. This is a bad idea. Girls are annoyed when you take their stuff, so just don't. Doing this will lower the friendship level between you two.

Start with easy conversation. What I call the 'hair cut' conversation. You don't want to talk about politics, or debates, or anything of the sort. "How was your day" ect ect. These help you build your relationship as well as learn more about the person.

You need to become good friends with the girl. It never works going up to some girl you like and say "Will you go out with me?". Be friends, and get along. Relationships take time. Don't get hasty, respect her, and when the time comes, just ask if she would like to see a movie, or diner, or something you can do which is mellow and relaxing. A first date to a screaming concert is not the way to go (unless of course, your girlfriend likes that.)
