Default Dealing with depression or sadness

Depression and sadness are common emotions and conditions which are strongly recognised throughout our society, making it a little bit easier to deal with, however there is always an abundance of uncertainty in terms of dealing with it. In this article it is hoped that methods of dealing with depression and sadness are addressed and simple things that can make you feel a whole lot better. These can be simple things that you may do everyday, but just need to focus more on in order to reach your original happiness.

FRIENDS

When it comes to feeling down, probably the most obvious and common "cure" are friends. This is as they offer a listening ear, or a convenient distraction (helpful if you're a guy and you don't like talking about your feelings). It is important to not be afraid to be open about how you feel with your friends. If they are good friends then they will take the time and effort to listen to you over a nice glass of coke, a cigarette, a bong or whatever you and your friends do together. It cannot be denied that there is a significant amount of weight lifted off your shoulders after having a nice meaningful conversation with someone close to you. This is why psychiatrists and related professions are always in high demand, as people realise that it helps to talk to someone. So if you've got friends to talk to, you've just saved yourself a whole lot of money. If you're not into the talking thing (guys are commonly stereotyped as none talkers, although it does not apply to me as I get a benefit out of conversation), friends offer great distractions. Activities that you do with your friend undoubtedly make you forget about everything else as you're distracted. Whether it's having a few quite drinks, a few smokes, listening to music, playing music, watching porn or whatever it is you do, it distracts you and makes you forget about your sadness. Having said that, after you go home, generally the sadness comes back, which is where the next heading comes in...

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Having fun and doing your favorite hobbies are excellent ways of expressing your sadness which also provides relief. I for example play guitar, a beautiful instrument might I add, I get down a lot so I usually play for a few hours, not other peoples stuff, I make up my own as it's more personal, and I just lose myself in the instrument. Which is kinda what you want to aim for; losing yourself and becoming totally immersed in your hobby where your expression is subconscious and all your sadness has gone away. If you're into sports, you could go for a run or a bike ride while listening to your favorite tunes on your MP3 player, or go to the skate park etc. It's all about focusing on what you enjoy doing and embracing it. Even if it's just watching the tv (as long as it's a good show) or playing the Xbox/PS3/Wii/etc.

Don't worry guys there's still more to come if this article gets enough interest. I will write a sequel article with mine and any of your suggestions in dealing with these issues, as these are common factors which affect many of our lives.

Great article.
One of the most effective ways to fight depression/sadness is to play an instrument.

My distraction is sex. It keeps my mind of things.

the thing with me is, i don't have the motivation to play an instrument.. I tried, but i always feel like " what's the point" and " i'm not worth the attention" When i'm depressed or sad, I sit and write. I wrote a short story for myself, it cheered my up slightly due to the fact that, the things i want in live, i can't have so i made them come true inside this story.
