Alot of teenagers do sports these days, Football, Track, Baseball, Basketball, etc. Part of being in sport's is staying healthy and being at your peek of your physical fitness, but some kids take it over-board. In sports where you have a certain weight class, some kids cut weight. Either wearing a plastic suit that doesn't let your body breathe or just not eating for days on end. Now, to think that while doing something you think is healthy is actually worse for you than not doing the sport at all. If you join a sport don't feel like you HAVE to submit to losing weight, taking PEDS(Performance Enhancing Drugs), plenty of athletes are successful and they have never done either. If you want to lost weight, don't not eat, when you don't eat your body thinks your starving yourself, so every meal you eat when you eventually do eat, you will take more than you typically would because your body thinks that it's going to be awhile before it gets more food. Now if you want to be a good athlete their is a couple things you do have to do.
Have a positive outlook - Dont think that just because you got something wrong the first time that you will never get it, a lot of things can be confusing when just joining a sport.
Dont let your social life decline - Dont stop talking to family or friends because your always at the gym. Set aside time in your day to spend time with family and friends.
Dont over-do it - Staying on top of your game is important, but don't burn out on it. Over exercising is worthless and doesn't really help you in the long run. Make sure you do eat, figure out a good daily income of Cals, Carbs, Fats, Sugars. All are very important when working out
Dont forget school - Alot of athletes think oh i can get a scholarship, i dont need to do well in school. Well, though some kids do get scholarships many don't, stay focused on school and keep your academics up. You would be surprised how well a really educated athlete does on the field.
That's pretty much it, just remember at first the going is very rough, you wont be keen to anything going on around you and their will be times you want to quit and give in. Take it from someone who knows, the excitement of being on the gridiron,track,field, is one of the best highs you can get.
