Icon1 Teen Learning Advice

If you are a teen and not in a job when you have left school the second best thing you could do with your time is either get an apprenticeship or learn. You could try learning at college, at home on an online course or at a Learn Direct centre.

In learning you should aim to get yourself some qualifications whilst you apply for jobs elsewhere. Being in education and learning when applying for jobs proves to the employer you are not just sat there no longer learning or working and shows your dedication and that you are active enough to be able to work.

If you are sat at home right now without work and not doing anything temporarily this is the best thing you can do. It will keep your mind and body active if youre travelling daily to college or the learning centre.

There is many free online courses for all ages which you can sign up for, things like Edexcel and CLAIT courses as well as media related courses like Graphic Design and Web Design.

Centres like Learn Direct can be really good for those wishing to study at home as they provide an online tutor as well as all the work you need to do is provided online. All you do is study at your own pace and send off your work to the tutor who marks it for you and keeps in regular contact with you. At the end their usually is a test/exam which you will sit at your local exam centre.

Drop into your local college and discuss available courses with a staff member. Most colleges have someone who will advise what the best courses would be for you and help you through the application process too. Most courses for teenagers will of course be funded and you may be entitled to either an Adult Learning Grant (ALG) or Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) and some colleges will have their own funding which you may be entitled to.

Colleges always have a wide range of the best courses available. Pick a subject and most colleges will provide tuition on it. You could even just do a few hours of college every week until you find work, as long as you are studying and keeping yourself busy this is a good thing in the eyes of your potential employer.

Dont just sit there, exploit the time you have and use it for something good and productive

Thanks for reading my short article.
