Good things do happen

Ok so I've mentioned before I think that I'm a member of this awesome internet community called Nerdfighters which bases itself on YouTube and is lead by John and Hank Green. We do loads of charity work and awareness raising as well as having so much fun and last night was probably the most exciting night ever.
In a previous blog post I said that after the Haiti earthquake we teamed up with the Harry Potter Alliance who are another awesome group of people and we had a huge telethon and lottery to raise as much money as possible. We raised about $128,000 which is enough to pay for 5 planes full of aid and supplies to be flown to Haiti and from just 2 online communities, that's an incredible amount.
Last night was the draw for all the prizes we had entered in for when donating. There were about 200 prizes I think (I might be wrong) and the top prize was a complete set of Harry Potter books, signed and authenticated by J K Rowling. There's only like 5 of these sets in the whole world because she very very very rarely signs complete sets.
Each ticket for the lottery to win the signed books cost $100 and The Electrical Contractors Association put in $1,000 as their donation to Haiti with no real intention of winning the books. Turns out they won and now they are going to put the books up again to raise money for their own foundation that provides scholarships in the electrical industry. This is so awesome not only because the books are still up fr grabs but they're going to raise even more money for charity (probably about $40,000).
This sort of stuff only happens in the movies but it's just so amazing that we're going to be raising more money and everyone is so happy about that and so happy that they have another chance to win. It was such an amazing end to the night and it was totally worth staying up until 3am for.
