Question World of Warcraft Questions

Right, I have never played this game before and I am not knowledgeable in MMORPG's at all, a friend of mine has given me his World of Warcraft Battle Chest which he has never used at all so I am sure it will be good to go.

The main questions I have about it are what do you do within World of Warcraft, are there any games you could compare it to that are similar? Is it similar to things such as Gaia at all or Oblivion? What is the life expectancy of the game, does it actually have an end or am I missing the concept of MMORPG's altogether?

Any input on this game would be great.

Thanks

MMORPG's generally never have an end. It's something you play until you just get bored with it really.

I've never played the game myself as I hear it can be very addicting.

The main site will tell you most anything. Generally speaking.

I know you create your own character and you run around and do stuff, complete quests, battle monsters, things like that.

I know it's not like Gaia, the graphics are much better.
I've only ever seen the game being played, so I don't know much about it. However, I'm sure the basicness of it is just like any other downloadable RPG.
Create a character, run around different areas, do quests, kick some ass, get some amour and weapons, kick some more ass, level up, then go on your way by trying to be the best and most badass of all (because, it's that important).

Though I believe there are other things you can do in the game. I'm just not sure what.

Like I said, I've never played it so all this is just info I picked up.

Thank you, looking at the site there it looks very complex to get into it and understand everything, unless it is best to learn as you go. I cant believe it has its own glossary of terms too!!!

After having a look on this page here it has got me very interested now, I guess that page was written to suck people into it before the real addiction is to take place.

Everything has an end. EVERYTHINg. But the end of MMORPG's is when you unlock, get and accomplish everything is the game.

Dont they constantly update these quests and things you can accomplish so that it doesnt ever really end for anyone?

Only one guy has ever beaten World of Warcraft, and he probably had no life whatsoever, so I don't think you'll run out of stuff to do.

I don't play it myself, because I'm cheap and don't feel like paying monthly. Plus I don't like playing games with other people. I play Guild Was sometimes because you only have to pay once, and it's okay, although I hear Warcraft is better.

I've played it now for a while, well a couple of months, Theres alot of depth to it, most people when they reach 80, which is the level cap currently but this will increase to 85 with the cataclysm expansion.

But most people at 80 usually either do raids, 10 man or 25 man, which is basically dungeons, or they do harder 4 man dungeons, they are both used for getting better gear. You learn most of the in's and out's of WoW while playing, it is a good idea to have someone who you know already plays it who you can go to for advice e.c.t

I've only played the trial/demo, but shall post about what I know.

There are quite a few things to do in WoW, however just like any MMO/RPG they can get quite repetitive. All the quests I did in WoW during my trial period was "Go here, kill this" or "Go there, collect item, bring it back". I don't think you can compare Oblivion to WoW, as the game is much bigger (see comparison: http://kotaku.com/5533787/its-not-th...how-you-use-it) and has a lot more content.

Life expectancy is dependent on how much you enjoy the game. Once I reach max level, complete all missions/side-missions, earned all the achievements etc on a game, that's usually the end for me; I don't role-play or just wonder around killing things. I know people who've played WoW for years and they still aren't bored of it, so if you enjoy it I'm sure it'll last a long time. I don't think there's an actual end to it as, like you said, they regularly bring out new content.

If you can afford £10 a month (or whatever the price is), then give it a try. I suppose you can always set-up a trial account first.

I got the game + The Burning Crusades expansion. I'm having to download a 2GB patch which is extremely slow and a piss-take.
