Icon11 Texting Alternative?

I don't have a cell phone. But does anyone know a textfree or textplus alternative that I could use, maybe from my computer? I just want to keep up with my friends in their texting circle. Thanks!

I just started using Chime. It is still in beta, but it lets me text from my computer or phone for free -they like give you a new phone number for your computer. It still has some bugs and stuff but all my friends love it. You have to put your email in and wait till they let you in but it’s pretty good.

In some countries, plain ICQ will do the job.

Just tried out Chime. I registered for an account and after a few days they sent me a phone number and password. I really like it! I had no idea that not only could I txt for free but it also connects you to facebook, twitter, g-chat and some other messaging sites if you have them THANKS Diva858!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Chime account it is works pretty well. I like that I have my own texting number. The one thing I think you left out Diva is that you can also connect to Gtalk and twitter and yahoo messenger. That's my favorite part, you can have all your accounts in one service
