Default Computer is...slowish.

I've always been one to optimize my computer's performance. Lately I've been having a few problems with the PC.

First of all, every time I run a registry cleaner it detects approx 100+ errors. I click the "Repair" button and it always results in being successful. I'll run the scan again and there's another 80 or so errors present on the system. Why?

Also, most of the time my computer makes very little noise, except from the sound coming from the fan and occasionally the hard drive. Even when playing a game which requires a lot of resources, the computer makes little, hardly noticeable sound. However, randomly the hard drive will kick in at any time, as if my computer was doing a scan or something. It can slow down my games and even the general performance of the computer. I have checked, and double-checked to see if any of my scanners or utilities are doing an unknown scheduled task, but none of them are. I've scanned my computer for viruses/malware/spybots and nothing has come up.

Suggestions?

Me and computers dont get along lol, my computer did that error thing and I had it checked out and they said nothing was wrong with it, then 2 months later my computer would only display the blue screen I got it check out by a different person and he said a virus had taken over my computer and the virus was sending me the messages.. I dont think there is any fix, but then again I know nothing about computers lol.

If youre running vista or windows 7 then it could be the search indexer, if youre using tune up utilities go through the suggested tweaks and it will allow you to turn it off although that means if you search for a file, you will have to find it yourself rather than have the system find it. I also would type msconfig in the search box from start and hit enter, then click startup and see if theres anything in there running at startup that isnt really needed.

If you could post a screenshot when its doing this of the processes list in task manager that could help us see whats running at that time. I know most hard drive activity on my HD comes from that damn search indexer

msconfig has been setup already, and I double-checked it earlier today. I used Tune-Up Utilities and did all the things it suggested before I ran out of the trial.

Will do.

Thats great, check quickly if you can and see if searchindexer.exe is running in your processes list, if it is then I believe that is the problem here.

I would check task managers process list when you hear that noise then, there must be something running now and then and it should show in there when that noise is on.

cause a registry cleaner never found any fault at one scan. this is simply a question of experience to me. therfore, i once did an experiment and let four different registry-cleaners search the registry again and again, til none of the programs found an mistakes anymore. 8-15 passageways were necessary for it. with every pass, also entries, that should actually not be recognized as mistakes, were shown as mistakes. so, it belongs to the programmers how those programs work. umm ... but it is also up to the user to know his system and doin a clean up regularly.
