However shooting games I would suggest Halo and Cod. Theyre the 2 most common, as far as I know.
For Adventure, personally, Assassins Creed.
Roleplaying - Final Fantasy, Fable, Oblivion.
Fighting I can only think of WWE.
Racing... Forza, Need For Speed.
My best advice is to go look at some of the top sellers on websites and watch some trailers
Crysis 2 when it comes out for it in March, and Bioshock Infinite when thats out too. At the moment I would get Call of Duty Black Ops and Assassins Creed Brotherhood, perhaps the others with it too if you havent played them. I think those two are the best games out for it personally, what game genres do you tend to like?

Thanks, I'm probably going to get Black Ops but I'm going to get Xbox Live first
the majority of people play cod,
im a supporter of battlefield.
Its different than COD, but i believe it to be a better MULTIPLAYER game, 12 on 12 games with tanks, jeeps, apc's, helicopters. AMAZING graphics and sound, building destruction, huge maps.
The only thing is battefield badcompany2 is somewhat losing steam, and really is meant to be played with friends. Everyone that likes battefield for that game bought the Nam* expansion which is like 15 bucks.
If you aren't that serious about gaming then yea just get black ops.
OH but the one game that you should get off the xbox live arcade is geometry wars 2.
its is like asteroids on STEROIDS, its simple yet amazing. Just google in and check out some video or something, it is a good game for anyone. NEVER gets old lol

Whatever you do, don't miss out on Assassin's Creed, and GTA IV, those were pretty good in my opinion
YES gta4 was a great game, endless fun there.
