Default CPU

Ok, my CPU is an AMD phenom ii X4 965 3.4 ghz, and the stock fan is VERY noisy and under heavy loads temperatures go up to high 60s anyway (not dangerous, but not ideal either) and i'm looking for a replacement cooler, anyone have any ideas.

other specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte (can't remember the model)
Graphics card: ATI Radeon 4850
RAM 4GB
Power supply: not sure, think it's 500w (could be 550)

Cooler Master Hyper 212

Is the best CPU cooler and should help keep your temperatures lower than they are now. You should be able to pick it up for around 20 quid.

(I'm not a super computer nerd - my boyfriend is!)

can't argue with that i guess
mine does run quite hot anyway because i overclocked it to 3.7GHz

or maybe consider using liquid cooling, its quite expensive but it's supposed to be the best there is

Depends what you're doing To be honest, I usually run at that temp at full capacity with games and applications open.

Just get a cooler, make sure it will fit...

temps went up to 74 today, fan speed 6980 RPM, i've been thinking that the case could also be part of the problem, it's the same case from 6 years ago, since then i've upgraded the graphics card, processor, RAM and motherboard, it doesn't have any fans of its own, just the power supply fan, it's possible it's just too much heat for the case.
I've checked out the ones suggested, also looking at the coolermaster V8. @SparkleyCrystal do you know what CPU your boyfriend has and wheter it's overclocked or not?

@guitarguy1357 I'm a dope at this computer lark but 74 is freaking high.

I will ask him tonight and let you know.

@guitarguy1357

This is Crystals boyfriend.

Ive got a Intel I5-2400 3.1GHZ overclocked to 3.6GHZ (vcore at 1.32v)
IDLE: 30c - 35c
LOAD: 45c -55c

My case is a zalman z9, nice and good for airflow along with the hyper 212.

Check your vcore isnt too high as that is what affects temps the most, also as silly as it might sound reseating with some new thermal paste is always worth trying, if you do get some arctic silver 5 paste, awesome stuff.

I go with Crystal here.
