Default How to become a good writer?

I want to start writing short stories, anyone has such experience? What can you recommend for such beginner as I? And how much time it usually takes for improving your writing skills? Thanks in advance!

Talent has a main influence in this case, however without experience/well-developed skills you won't be able to write really a good story. Of couse there are exceptions but they're very rare so be ready that becoming really a good writer will demand from you much patience and time Also your idea to start with short stories is very good because it's often recommended for beginners by professional writers.
Your main tips for beginning will be:

- inspiration and creating an idea for your story, don't worry about how original it is, your main thing is just to start
- developing characters and describing them in detail
- descriptions for various locations, nature, things etc.
- writing good dialogues
- showing certain things in your plot, not simply telling about it
- editing your story for possible vocabulary/style/grammar mistakes, don't be lazy for checking it several times at least, also finding a beta is very helpful in this case too
- avoiding plagiarism, it's important for developing your own skills and not receiving negative feedback because of that later, you can use various special programs for that like Plagiarism Check, it spots falsifications, Dupli Checker, Copyleaks, Plagium and so on

These tips https://thejohnfox.com/2013/04/33-mi...g-short-story/ will be helpful for you too.

For the previous Father's Day I decided to make a hand-made postcard for my dad. I also wrote down a poem daddy by Sylvia Plath in it. It seemed so touchy and sincere to me that I couldn't help but do that. My dad was of the same opinion, I thought he would even drop a tear.

I agree with you absolutely, talent plays a major role in the writing process. Of course, you can read a lot of essays, learn story structures and use all lifehacks to impress readers but I’m sure that unique genius story could be created only by a truly gifted writer

Hi!

Writing short stories should be fun as my little sister Peggy soon to be 12 tells me. I gave her a book called The Fiction Writer's Handbook by Nancy Smith. You can buy it dirt cheap since it's out of print now, but available on eBay, or amazon for about .40p + £1.88 postage or abebooks.com or .co.uk

It's a super fun paperback. Peggy says she's got some 50 synonyms for the word 'said'. It was published by Piatkus.

To brush up your writing skills and get into competition with other writers, how about you join the writing community Mibba?

If you get really good, then take a look at Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).
