Modern Satanists are atheists with specific moral beliefs that generally greatly differ from the population at large. Modern Satanism exemplifies their beliefs regarding theism and their belief in being their own god, but it also exemplifies their personal beliefs.
Okay, then why is the word "Satanism" or "Satanist" attached? Should that not imply it has something to do with Satan?

Sacrificing anything is strictly against Satanism. There are just people who believe that's what Satanism is and go do it to make themselves feel like tough shit.
Sacrificing goes against a lot of religions, doesn't mean it doesn't happen due to a group of crazies in each of them.
Why I won't deny that, I'm still saying that there are crazies anywhere and everywhere.

Damn, I wish I could find the site with a whole section dedicated to this question. I could never explain it as well as they did.
Basically, Satan symbolises what Satanists believe in - questioning everything, knowledge, being strong-willed, etc. So they don't literally believe in Satan, but they believe in what he stood for.

Of course there are. But if they sacrifice anything, they're not Satanists any more than they are Buddhists or Christians or anything else. They're dabblers, pseudo-Satanists.

You're thinking of Traditional Satanism there, not Modern.

Depending on the individual they could be pseudo or they could sincerely believe in their actions but they are just warped though.
Some do it for justification as well. Like as an excuse to be warped and sick.

Wasn't it Lucifer (the fallen angel) who did all that?

^ Being a tad ignorant. But I was under the impression that Satan is a symbol of corruption and destruction....
Depends on what you want to take, I believe certain demons are associated with different forms of corruption.
Satan is the demon of Wrath, for example.
Lucifer is the demon/fallen angel of Pride.
And I made a whole bunch of blog posts about the Seven Deadly Sins a while back so you can check there for more examples.
The Incubus (male) and Succubus (female) are demons of Lust, they rape humans in order to collect and pass on sperm to create half-demons (I forget what they are called) and they are the 'children' of Lilith, supposedly Adam's first wife who later became a demon.
Depends on what you choose to believe.

LaVeyan Satanism was founded in 1966 by Anton Szandor LaVey. Its teachings are based on individualism, self-indulgence, and "eye for an eye" morality, drawing influences from the rituals and ceremonies of occultist Aleister Crowley, and the philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche and Ayn Rand. Employing Crowley's terminology, its adherents define Satanism as a "Left-Hand Path" religion and philosophy, rejecting traditional "Right-Hand Path" religions such as Christianity for their perceived denial of life and emphasis on guilt and abstinence. Unlike Theistic Satanism, LaVeyan Satanism does not involve worship of any deity, but rather uses "Satan" as a symbol of carnality and earthly values, of man's inherent nature.
Anton LaVey established Satanism's first and largest religion-supporting organization, the Church of Satan, in 1966, and codified Satanic beliefs and practices in The Satanic Bible in 1969. According to the Church of Satan, there are many Satanists around the world, including both members and non-members. It rejects the legitimacy of any other organizations of Satanists, dubbing them reverse-Christians and pseudo-Satanists. Although exact numbers have never been released, it has been estimated by the church that the number of adherents is in the tens of thousands.
