I was reading something earlier today which was claiming internet use is what could be the cause of some peoples depression and I was wondering what you think about it. Do you think the internet is linked to depression and causing people to be more reclusive?
Personally I think the internet has been a good thing for those who are already reclusive as it gives them something to do when they may have not been doing anything at all instead of using the net.
It could cause some peoples depression but I think almost anything can cause depression in someone so I dont blame the internet for any rises of depression.
Yes. You guys and many other users on many other sites constantly make me depressed...
And yet I keep coming back...
Okay, no, I'm half-joking about that.
Honestly speaking, yes, I tend to be more depressed on the internet... maybe it's because people are always so insistent upon talking about gloomy things that we already have to deal with in Real Life.
You people, you know how you are, you put me in a bad mood. Poo on you.
I don't blame it on my depression per-se... however it's a major contributing factor.
And in all honesty... if there was anything else I could be doing that was fun... well, I wouldn't be on here right now.
The internet is my life... this fact makes me even more depressed...
When winter passes totally over... I'm so getting a more valid reason to continue living...
Anyway, staring at a PC screen too much can cause headaches, which can put you in a bad mood too.
This happens to me a lot.
As for reclusive... yeah, it causes people to become more reclusive. I mean, why interact when you have the internet?
Gets rid of awkwardness, mess-ups, things like that... the only catch is that it helps if you can spell... (there goes the whole block)

I heard about this story this morning as well,
I think that people go onto the internet sometimes
to seek advice for their problems that they are
experiencing and wants advice to help them through
it, so overall I believe that the internet isn't to blame.
People are more depressed on the internet because
of all these problems are around and because they are
discussing them which may be depressing while making
them feel better at the same time.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
Nope, the internet is the only place i can talk about some things. its an escape.
Plus i have fun on the internet, there's YT, and forums and email and games/quizzes, nice people (on the most part xD)
However some people could maybe become really addicted and withdraw from reality.
♥. Just another day like any other,
Nothing in the sky said run for cover,
There was no parade,
No lightsflashing,
No songs to sing along the way. ♥
I don't think that the internet could cause depression because it's good things you can't
leave them .
but maybe in one case it's in chat rooms maybe he/she speak to someone
then he/she discover that person talks to someone else this may cause
anger & depression
I both agree and disagree. It's obvious that people are spending more and more online now and I think that in some cases it is the cause of depression, but in other cases, it helps with depression. People who tend to be more socially reclusive are now able to spend more time online to meet people and talk that they find difficult to do in real life. As well as reducing their solitude, it may however make them turn their back on the real world more and more, making it harder - and as a result - more depressing when they have real life situation do deal with.
The internet has given rise to forums and communities like these that are a great help and strong support for many teens struggling with depression and I think the main cause of that is pressure both in education and socially. Children, I think, are being forced to grow up too fast by the media and the schooling system. Exams get harder every year as teaching methods improve but a child's brain and natural intellect is not growing at the same rate. This is putting massive pressure on them and with "pushy" parents and teachers who want their children to do well, they are going to be consequences.
Bullying has become easier online with the likes of Facebook and everyone having everyone else added as friends. With no obvious people of authority in these communities, bullies are capable of doing and saying what they like without having to worry about teachers or parents finding out. The internet (and mobile phones) has meant that you can always be contacted and so there is never a place you can go to get away from it all. This constant onslaught and pressure, I think, is the cause of the majority of depression in teens today.
P.S sorry if that's just a big jumbled mess of words.
