I was reading an article earlier today about the privileges prisoners get in the UK as part of prisoner privilege schemes which are developed in each prison.
Here are some of them which are earned through good behaviour and taken away through misbehaviour:
Access to Private Cash
Extra and improved visits
Access to in-cell television
Wearing own clothes
Eligibility to participate in higher rates of pay schemes
Time out of cell for association between an establishments minimum and 12 hours
Those are most of the key earnable priveleges but there is other ones in different prisons, perhaps they get a games console to go with their TV or extra food or even better food.
Do you think prisoners should be able to earn such privileges? Should they all have the same things in prison regardless of behaviour?
One thing I did read was that prisoners arent always able to access the enhanced features of the schemes for example extra cash allowances and this is when they maintain their innocence, so in other words, if you arent guilty of the crime youre put away for, always say youre not guilty etc, then you dont get the higher end of the privilege system.
What are your thoughts?
