I was recently in a school debate against a christian that you have to be Chistian to clebrate Christmas. Here are some of the quotes. I will not release the name due to personal reasons.) M = Me C = Christian
M: You don't have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas.
C: Yes, you do Christmas was invented by christ and the followers that of which are christians "phrase" the word CHRISTmas.
M: That may be so, But in the society of today, Christmas is the type of year which is the emotional, spiritual and physical bond betweens every living thing on the planet.
C: Yes. But Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ.
M: You are correct. But in modern society who actually says anything about Christ during Christmas? I've known Satanists, many atheists some wiccans which celebrated the SPIRITUAL meaning of christmas and that's something you don't need religion to celebrate.
C: I see your point. But the fact is Christmas was invented by christians FOR christians.
M: But that was in wild western and ancient society. In today's society no matter what religion or non-religion you can celbrate the spiritual meaning of Christmas without actually celebrating the main REASON for Christmas.
That's as far as I'm gonig because I don't feel like maknig this to long for you guys.
Please post if you think you need or needn't to be christian to celebrate christmas.
well,I think he's right
why do people need to celebrate in christams and they
aren't christians?
do you mean like sharing the celebration with christians?
I see both your points. It is a primarily Christian holiday, and for Christians it's about the birth of Christ. However, if you're not a Christian I don't see why you can't celebrate. I mean, people are giving each other cards and presents, there's decorations all over the place... it's kind of hard to ignore it anyway. Besides,it's not like it's the only celebration that takes place at that kind of year. Yule is on the exact same day.
For a lot of people it's not even Christmas, it's just 'the holidays'.
well as for me and my religion, we dont have xtmas but we do have the winter solistice which is in dec, 21st to 23rd ... and i dont celebrate xtmas... if i did , i'd be hyprocrite.... so, i think non-christians shouldn't celebrate the xtmas.. i dont even get why christian ppl celebrate the xtmas in dec... jesus was born in march
Wait, Christmas, if you go way back, was a pagan holiday BEFORE Jesus, but then after Jesus died, the Church wanted to deside where to place Jesus's birthday since it wasn't recorded, so they put it on the same day as the pagans, THATS ALL, and who said EVERYONE in the world celeberates christmas you mad?, People in the middle-east and africa don't, unless they are Christian, are you saying Muslims Buddhists and Jews celeberate christmas? if you are referring to WESTREN society, state that not the world, the west isn't the world, there is an area bigger then the west (which you call world) which is called teh east, plus have you ever seen a communist chinese man celeberating christmas, come on? or a mongolian, or an Indian? an Arab Muslim or Arab Jew?

what?! he didn't say that every person in this world must celebrate in
Christmas!! he said that anyone who aren't christain can celebrate
in Christmas if they want..
that what he meant
''society of today'' i interpert that as the human world societ, but anyway forget that, main point is christians actually took that holiday from pagans, so, wether your athiest or christian, celeberate the day whatever you want to, if your christian then celeberate it for JESUS, and if your atheist celeberate it what ever day you wanna call it, plus the christian eastren orthodox world, have christmas in January, so basically main point, it wasn't Jesus's birthday anyway, it was selected on that day to be Jesus's birthday ''CELEBERATION'' but it was ment to hijack the pagan''s holidays, so that the society in the christian countries in ancient times wont be devided between christian and non christian

Ok,but you shouldn't say that about christians or about Jesus..
btw muslims also believe in Jesus ! and I don't know
about Jesus's birthday ..
well, i repect every believer but once thing is for sure... at least chirstians stole every single holy day from pagans.. and then years later they burnt pagans... omg i so hate to say this but i am so angry and i so hate the vatican...
