The only way to confirm is a DNA test really. Considering it's for a missing girl then there should be no problem in getting DNA.

Personally, I believe if there's no body then it can't be proven she's dead.
Unless they were to find massive amounts of blood spattered all over the place... that is.
She could be dead, she could be alive.
No body, no proof in my humble opinion.

All you need is a hair brush or toothbrush.
Personally, being a look-a-like is enough proof for me as if a child spends enough time with a captor then come to bond with the captor and may even start to believe they are their child.
Either that or fingerprints, which is actually more reliable than DNA if you can believe that.
Virtually every child has their prints on file somewhere.
