What do you think about the death sentence?
well, i think the death sentence should be used in the most serious cases.

what do you think?

The Death Penalty has it's good points and bad points.

Firstly it's good because it acts as a deterent in some ways, it punishes those who have taken someone
elses life.

However it's also not very good because if someone has been killed under the penalty then they can't be
brought back if years later they are actually proved to be innocent, an example would be of Derek Bentley
who was executed years ago, he frequently suffered from epileptic fits and one of those people who was
believed to be really nice but hung out with the wrong crowd. One night they broke into a shop and when
the police arrived Bentley told his friend to "Let the police have it", this could have been taken in 2 ways,
firstly to give th policeman the gun or to mean to shot him.Furthermore I can't remember where it is but
theres this country that doesn't have the death penalty and people on average on a person to gun ratio
is 1:2 and theres not a lot of crime there. Another reason tha tthe penalty is bad is because some people
can get paranoid over the fact that by doing something wrong then they maybe executed. Finally it's
believed that some criminals end up in prison on purpose because life in prison for them is better than
them living on the streets where they live.

Overall there are more bad points of the death penalty than for having it. I however believe that the penalty
should only be used in serious cases where it is certain who the criminal is !

I'm perfectly okay with it.
But only when dealing with those who are criminally insane.
Those who feel no remorse for their actions. Those who are glad with what they did and would do it again.

Basically, only the worst of cases.
Like Charles Manson for example, he never did any actual killing but his "family" did and he told them too.
He should have gotten the death penalty - him and all his followers.

Then there was this man who killed 13 women and stuck them all in a bathtub. At least I think it was 13.
I don't remember much about it though.

Basically, it should only be used on the worst of criminals.

Used in most serious cases 100%!!!

I dont agree with it for things like stealing etc. but for things like murder and terrorism.
But you would have to take into account a lot of things, such as the mental health of the person ..

Urgh. Capital Punishment ftl. I hate it. I think it's stupid.

I always used to agree with it.

However my dads in court for rape at the moment and I can put my hand on my heart and say he never did it :'( So if he is found guilty and you could still have the death sentence surely that would mean he'd die? I mean I'm 15 and need a dad even if he does go to prison

I am 100% against the death penalty.

NOWAY it should NOT be used at all.

I'm against it, I hate it and I will never agress with it.
I don't belive in any form of vengence, and I find it almost childish.

Its good to see what everyone thinks about this because on other forums I have posted it on, they have all ended up having an argument over it! But here its all good This forum is great!

I'd like to add that it takes years for a death sentence to take place.
I think they place you on death row for damn near 2 years at minimum. Unless there is no doubt it was you who did it.

The reason for this is so the cases can be reviewed by an outside party.
