It's definitely strict. But strict =/= effective. What they did by arresting the student was appalling and should have never happened. Though, these days a lot of crazy things happen, and nobody can really explain why. We're all so paranoid about keeping control that we throw common sense out the window. I'm glad that she was given the community service and let go, but she should have never been put in such a position. Detention? Sure, that's fine. A small fine for the damages and repair? Sure, that's fine. Arrest? That's way too far.

Using these insane punishments for such minor arrests isn't doing anybody any good. All we're teaching the younger crowd is that authoritative figures have the ability to do practically anything for any reason they seem, and that's a terrible example to be setting. We should be teaching people that small things like writing on the desk is wrong in order to teach them respect for property of others, not sending them to holding for seven to eight hours. Teach, don't scare. Scaring people isn't helping anyone. A good lesson stays with a person for a long time and is a much more effective preventive measure. A hauling to holding will only scare the shit out of you and will teach you nothing.

Thats stupid, arrested for doodling on a table is just stupid, a detention maybe but an arrest is way to harsh. I mean in my school in the science rooms the wooden tables are written all over you can't even see a bit of tavle that hasn't been doodled on !
Schools are nuts these days, like people aren't punished for serious things and then people are arrested for writing on a table.
Another story this week was that a 5 year old child climbed a tree at school and got stuck up there, regulations said that no-one could help him down so all the teachers and students went back inside and watched him there. A passer by saw this kid and helped him down, this passer by was then procecuted for her actions !
A minister remarked that this was totally out of order and that the passer by schould have been given a medal for what they'd done instead of facing procecution, he later added that in the situation the teachers shouldn't have cared about the regulations and that the child comes forst not the regulations.

All my life I've had one dream, to achieve my many goals.
