Gordon Brown confirmed the General Election will take place on May 6
Gordon Brown launched the General Election campaign on Tuesday with an appeal to the country to give him "a clear and straightforward mandate" to continue the work of economic recovery.
The Prime Minister emerged from No 10 Downing Street shortly before 11am to confirm what he described as "the least well-kept secret of recent years" - that the country would go to the polls on May 6.
Tory leader David Cameron said it would be "the most important General Election for a generation", while Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said it marked "the beginning of the end" for Mr Brown.
In apparent anticipation of a possible hung parliament, Downing Street announced the new parliament would not meet until May 18, allowing 12 days for potential horse-trading among the parties over the formation of a new government.
Mr Brown made clear he intended to make the economy the centrepiece of his campaign - holding out the prospect of a return to prosperity under Labour while warning of rising unemployment and business failures under the Conservatives.
Flanked by his entire Cabinet outside the door of No 10, he warned that failure to get right the "big decisions" on the economy over the next few months risked tipping the country back into a "double-dip" recession.
"Over the next few weeks I will go round the country - the length and breadth of our land - and I will take to the people a very straightforward and clear message: Britain is on the road to recovery and nothing we do should put that recovery at risk," he said.
"Get the big decisions right - as we did in the last 18 months since the world recession - and jobs, prosperity and better standards of living will result. Get the big decisions wrong and the lives of hundreds of thousands of people are diminished as a result. That is why I am asking the British people - I'm asking you, the British people - for a clear and straightforward mandate to continue the urgent and hard work securing the recovery."
Even before the Prime Minister had made the formal announcement of the election date, Mr Cameron had kicked off his own campaign with an appearance before supporters in front of London's County Hall, just over the river from No 10.
Meanwhile Mr Clegg, addressing activists at the Lib Dems' Westminster headquarters, insisted that it was not simply a two-way fight between the two biggest parties.
Firstly. I cant vote yet :[
Secondly who do you think is gonna win?
And who are you voting for/ would you vote for if you could and wanted to?
Oh and i added a poll for fun, and only put those parties cause the other parties dont really have a chance. :]

From what I hear, just from that, the Labour Party is more or less the equivalent of the US Democrat Party so if that is the case then - hopefully they won't win.
What party is Brown with again?
Going on the little I know about UK Politics, and without knowing who's running, I'm just gonna say the Conservative Party.
But like I said, I really don't know that much about UK Politics.
But what I can say is that from my POV, all three parties look like nuts to me. =D
Unless of course the meaning of conservative is different over there... and by that I mean that in the US it means a conservative use of government.
So, yeah, I don't know... I'm just rambling. XD

If the conservatives win the election this time around I hope that Britain doesn't go back into the state it was in the 80's and 90's - Where family's were finding it hard to keep their houses. :/
The Tory year's sound terrible and the last thing we need is a repeat of the past.
They've also planned to cut saving's this year rather than next year, I'm not to sure whether that a benefit in the long run or disadvantage in the short term.
" The Conservatives are more likely to support those who have a good income, own their own home and are not dependent on state benefits. However, they do support the welfare state and even when Thatcher was in power she made no attempt to dismantle it.
Labour policies are more likely to support those who are less well off and don't own their own property, for example they introduced the minimum wage which the Conservatives were dead against - now they support it as well. "
Right now, I don't know where I stand or who I support, and I can't vote yet.
*Sigh* We'll soon see the outcome of whoever the British people decide to vote for.
Most likely with the way thing's are going, I have a feeling the Conservatives are going to win.
You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me, You know I'm gonna find a time to catch your hand and make you stay.
I don't care what clothes you wear, it's time to love and I don't care, You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me.
Brown is Labour, which some would say is a kinda socialist party (as in help the poor etc.)
Conservatives, are more like traditional, i dont know if its the same as in the US? & yeah likely to win cause Brown got us into the recession and everyone hates him. lol
But i think either way whoever gets into power is just going to be hated by a lot of people.

Oh, *Just read about the Liberal Democrats*, I practically knew nothing about the Liberal Democrats but I have to say that I like their Education Policies.
But then again, that's probably just me.

I'm able to vote this time and I will be voting so I've been trying to get involved and follow it if possible. The way I see it:
If Labour win, it will all be down to Alistair Darling's (the Chancellor ) budget.
Liberal Democrats have no chance. They have and never will. They're too small and a 3 party system doesn't work.
The Conservatives will only win because people are fed up with Labour and have no one else to vote for.
In essence, Labour is the working man's party, the Conservative party is for the rich man and the Lib Dems are for the students. Even after 150 years, their basic policies are the same. Personally I think Labour have a realistic chance even though they are about 8 points behind in the polls simply because there are too many people (including myself) who don't want a Conservative government again.

Hmm well I don't really know much about politics and that's not cause I hate it or anything it's just cause I'm not clever enough to understand any of it XD
But I would say labour because the majority of people seem to back them :s x
