I'm gonna spark up this debate.

There has been a lot of controversy over these shops and legal drugs in general these past few months in Ireland. What's your opinion on them? Do you think they're a good alternative? or are you in favour of them closing like a lot of people?

I'm in two minds about them. I think the main benefit of them is it sort of puts a stop to drug related crime. People won't get in debt or end up involved in dangerous gangs. On the other hand, they haven't been properly tested. There hasn't been enough research to say they're entirely safe.

I think the head shops are fine...at least they don't sell drugs to under aged people...but i don't think they stop "drug related crime"..because most of them are controlled by different gangs. and they are always fighting...that's why some gangs burned some head shops to sort of eliminate the competition...

I know the people who work in some head shops locally and it definately isn't run by gangs. If this was the case, realistically they would have been closed long ago. The recent fires were said to be caused by actual drug lords because the sale of these "legal highs" were effecting their business. They've hatches on the doors of the shop now instead of letting people in. In one of the shops in my town a police officer is standing permanatly outside the shop these past few months since all the fires started. I actually mean it benefits young people by stopping them getting involved with bad and dangerous people. At least with head shops it's legal and monitored to a certain extent.

one of the guys in my school said that most of those fires were caused by gangs and he's part of a gang himself...but anyways i'm totally with the head shops...

UPDATE: They're pretty much gone now.

I knew about it...they banned pretty much all the best ones..."bestsellers" and that's why they shut down....but it didn't cause the fires...

I think they should be banned if they sell drugs which are known to be addictive and having a clear reputation for killing people, such as alcohol and tobacco cigarettes.
