Re: Are We Out Of Control?
The thing about the question, "humanity; are we out of control?" is that it's so subjective. It's arguable that there isn't an agreed unit of control that we have to abide by, or that this planet is largely in our control.
I'm really not sure what I think in direct answer to your question ... as a species, we're very sentient, ever-changing and certainly creative. But there is an arrogance and short-sightedness in our self-preservation: I'd love to see more regard for the different types of intelligence worldwide, or at least more respect. We're always quick to undermine other species and put our needs and desires first with the justification that 'we are the most evolutionary and important'. Fair enough, this planet's largely populated by us and we haven't found a parallel intelligence, but we spend a lot of time rendering everything else inexistent and I think it's just stupid. It isn't excuse enough to say 'it's intrinsic human nature and/or a survival instinct' because there's no other species so malignant and apparently ignorant of the world's natural balance, yet the general consensus is that we're the brightest.
In short, it would be nice if we were more aware of and sympathetic to the world's other inhabitants, because au currant we're progressing towards a very callous and lonely future. Our evolution, even though it's strikingly different to the rest of the world's, is arguably natural because it's 'just happening' and the planet is adapting around us. Whether it's a self-destructive progression or not remains to be seen, ultimately, but I think it's safe to say that our intelligence should lend us more empathy and fairness.
We even fight amongst ourselves a phenomenal amount, which is debilitating even if you think one race is more superior than the rest. Perhaps it's ingrained, something to keep our population in check where disease, starvation, and predation can't.

If not, do it. I'm beginning to get the impression that 50% of TF is populated by literate parrots/sentient mirrors.
