no.. that's not it.. that i know. i watched the shooting stars yesterday.. omg it was so beautiful. no, that's no it. what i mean by saying "the middle of somewhere" is going to Peru of some country like that to find the people who reads the stars
As I have mentioned in my other thread about 2012, it is a possibility it might actually happen. The Mayans predicted the rise and fall of Hitler, predicted World War 1 and obviously 2, there are many other events that they have gotten correct from just looking at the stars. We'll have to wait and see if they are correct about this, also.
Personally, I am 50/50 here. Might happen, might not.
As with anyone who predicts the future, people seem to remember what they got right and forget what they were wrong about. For instance, certain Mayan emperors had prisoners painted blue and killed so they could make sure the sun would come up.
As to why the Mayan calender ended, there are two theories:
1) The calender starts over after a while, as does ours every few years. Why they would wait a thousand years to make it start over beats me, ours starts over every 6 or 7 years I think. By the same logic, the world would end every 6 or 7 years, which doesn't happen obviously.
2) They ran out of room to write more. I personally don't believe this one, I'm sure they could have found more places to write.

Very true. This thought had slipped my mind, but you are completely right. From the logic that you have given, it would be extremely unlikely for the world to come to an end.

Wasn't it the Bible that predicted these events? Or Nostradamus? Or the Kaballah?
What beats be is, if there are so many sources which can predict the future, how come nobody uses them to make a fortune on the stock market?

Many ways of predicting the future have been lost due to certain cultures dieing off without passing on any of the knowledge. It almost seems like a "magicians secret", where they would rather hold their knowledge till death just to prevent anyone finding out how they did it.
You never know, there could actually be people who do use this to make a fortune on the stock market, they may be keeping the fortune low to prevent a massive uproar about the situation.
The Bible, I believe, predicted the end of the world in Revelations. Basically, it just said the warning signs, it never said when it would happen.
Plus there are many figurative sayings in it. For example, will the 4 horsemen really appear as 4 people riding horses? I somehow doubt it, I do believe, however, they would take forms of problems. Conquer, War, Famine, and Death. If you believe that then the only one questionable would be Conquer. I, however, think that it won't be in the form of a Conqueror.
But rather a mind-set that will bring us to our downfall.
Just according to that one thing in the Bible that is.
As for the calendar... I believe they just simply thought "ah hell, we wrote enough - I think people get the idea now".
In short, I don't believe in it. I'll believe in the end of the world if I live to see the signs. Now who's to say all the signs won't come at once or come but nothing happens.
I mean we've (humans) lived through hell before. Who's to say what the apocalypse will happen at all?
Basically, I don't believe it'll come in 2012. There's too much doubt and being a skeptic I can't believe it.
However, I'll just have to wait and see.
