Personally, I don't think it will because they've said it wold happen in 2005 and 2008 and has it happened yet? It might be a possibility because on the mexican calendar it ends at 2010 so you never know.
I think it would be hilarious if it did happen in 2012. No one believes it wil happen (including me) but if it actually did, what a kick in the face that would be.

I dont think it will happen, I am sure the reason they stopped writing their calendar was due to not needing to do it any further. Take the Unix time problem[en.wikipedia.org], we dont all think the world will end in 2038 due to the problems that are coming then and I am sure that if our systems were working up until the year 3000 that when it come they wouldnt all be worried about why we didnt go any further with it.
I dont think its about any predictions at all or anything similar. Its a case of common sense, someone didnt write their calendar further due to whatever reasons perhaps because they dont think they'd need it to be that long, I dont believe that it was because they thought that was when the world would end, and even if they did think so, I still highly doubt it will end then.
As Josh said, that would be awful, but still, I think we will all be here to celebrate our survival
As I have mentioned in my other thread about 2012, it is a possibility it might actually happen. The Mayans predicted the rise and fall of Hitler, predicted World War 1 and obviously 2, there are many other events that they have gotten correct from just looking at the stars. We'll have to wait and see if they are correct about this, also.
Personally, I am 50/50 here. Might happen, might not.

i mean the knowledge of egiptian people were sooo big.. today all that knowledge is forgotten or disappeared. same for mayans and etc....
The ability to read stars, predict the future, has only been passed down through specific lines of the human species. They still can be found today, you just have to know where to look.
