And they are not going to, last I heard they called it off.
It's irrelevant to me either way.
I know that if it wasn't a stunt then I know who it was aimed to, not Muslims but Radical Muslims.
That being said, it's irrelevant to me.
Shout, Shout, Let it all Out, These are the Things I Can do Without You Shouldn't Have to Jump for Joy, You Shouldn't Have to Shout for Joy
They Give You Life and in Return You Gave 'em Hell As Cold as Ice - No Bitch, You're Ice Ice Baby I Hope We Live to Tell the Tale, I Hope We Live to Shout the Tale
Will You Never Shout? And When You've Taken Down Your Guard... If I Could Change Your Mind, I'd Really Love to Break Your Heart! Come On Let Me Shout Shout Let Me, Come On Let Me Shout Shout!
It's really sad that there are those who use their power and authority to perpetrate such acts of intolerance in the name of God, no less.
Westerners have legitimate gripes with some in the Muslim world..This, however, is not the way to give voice to them. If anything, it justifies their misperceptions of us for doing something they can so readily identify with.
My Dad told me that there was a mass Bible-burning by Muslims not long a go. If that's the case, it's very hypocritical when they go ape-shit over a small, insignificant congregation decide to burn their holy book!
Also, something I read on the net (it's not true but it makes you think);
~~~~~~~~
"If 1000 Christians were killed by Muslims, how many Muslims would die in reprisal acts? None.
If 1000 Muslims were killed by Christians, how many Christians would die in reprisal acts? Too many to mention."
~~~~~~~~
I'm by far racist. but I am getting sick-to-death of some Muslims. I mean, how on Earth can a Koran-burning done by a few people with no power etc threaten the peace between the US and the Islamic community?
I'd understand if Barack Obama recorded himself burning the Islamic holy book, but a congregation of 50?

Because this book means very much to the Islamic community
do you know that you can't touch or read anything from
if your hands are dirty
it's the Holy Quran

I guess I have strong feelings about all this not only b/c I am a reasonable, open minded person and find this so totally offends my sensibilities, but also b/c I live a very few miles from Ground Zero, this is all very personal for me. So many who are so far from here have such a sense of entitlement to say and do whatever they want in the name of truly misplaced patriotism. Notice how the lunatic fringe that supports all this nuttiness come from regions of the US that really despise New York City and what they think we stand for. An example of Americans who love America but hate certain Americans. But I digress....
Kirk, two wrongs do not make a right. Intentionally causing harm to another is rarely justified, and certainly not in this instance. As I've said, Westerners have legitimate gripes with the Muslim world, but this is not the way to address those grievances. What's needed is clarity and understanding, not provocation and antagonism. Burning a holy book doesn't clarify what we're upset about, it only fuels the fire of hostility. Ditto for the absurd protestations about the Muslim community center downtown, the incorrectly named "Ground Zero Mosque'.
Opinions are Ok, freedom is great, but with it come responsibilities. It's that last part that people seem to have the most difficulty with. But, freedom without responsibility is lawlessness, and that's the part we need to combat. Starting at home.
I agree. As you probably know, I respect everyone for their beliefs, and I know that there's people in every other religion who causes trouble as well. I'm not trying to single out the Islamic community as being the only problematic one.

Yeah, I was aware of that actually. In fact, it was the Muslim faith I was more interested in, in High School.
I understand it means a lot to the community, but at the end of the day, this pastor has no power, and doesn't speak for the rest of the US. Him burning the Qu'ran shouldn't really "threaten the peace" as some people have put it.

I agree with you on this one Sam, but at the end of the day this is just 50 people who have no significant say or impact in the relationship between the US and the Islamic community. I understand that's it wrong and shouldn't be done. I can guarantee that if the media hadn't publicized this planned Qu'ran burning, it would've gone ahead and nobody would have been none-the-wiser that a small group of people just burnt a holy book. All this has done is anger more people.
In all fairness, religion/political debates are not my strong point. I'll stick to relationship advice.
