Have to admit that youtube vid made me laugh... I never even considered the possibility of it being a hoax, there was nothing to suggest so even if it was durng the Cold War... people where simply paranoid and scared in that time because of the possibility of a nuclear holocaust.

I doubt America would spend millions (if not billions) of dollars simply for their pride. Might as well say their Star Wars program was fully operational and scare the Soviet with "the ultimate laser defense system"
