I haven't remembered a dream since I stopped having nightmares when I was 12.

I would say yes and no, the last 2 dreams I had a dream it was about my ex (fairly recent too in consecutive nights) who admittedly I still hold feelings for but am trying everything to forget about her, since it makes for an unpleasant morning when I dream about being with her and waking up to realize it was a dream...

The dream I remember before those 2 was about two years ago during the summer about a mafia shooting down and burning a church while a wedding was going on... I was pretty dumfounded as to why I would dream such a thing.

Before going to college I used to have frequent lucid dreams so yeah my dreams tended to be far-fetched at times (from flying to avoiding a kidnapper/murderer)

I think they are definitely connected to how you think. they're linked to your short term memory, so basically what you've been thinking that day.
You may not know why you dreamt something, but it doesn't mean it's not connected to your thoughts - it's just your mind's interpretation of those thoughts

I don't think so. I've had some trippy dreams and some just flat-out weird ones. I don't think getting stabbed with a shard of glass is connected to anything I feel.
