Well, in my opinion it's psychological.
You've heard bad things happen, your afraid and then you imagine.
It's kinda the effect that horror movies have on you.

If you want to invite the devil into your soul, sure. Don't expect anything pretty to happen though. Not saying it'll happen every time, but it's basically an invitation to evil. You're giving devil/demons the right, an invitation.

Well, the way I look at it, it's probably marketing strategy to increase the sales of those boards. At the end of the day, it's a game made of cardboard with markings engraved by a human.

I've always wanted to try it. Always. I had a friend, however, tell me a really fucked up story that happened to her when her and a friend did one. My best friends step brother tried it once, with friends, and she told me that a little bit after they had done it, the board slip closer and closer to the edge until it fell off.

It's amusing to see how many people believe that a crappy piece of cardboard allows you to communicate with the dead.
