I think in some cases yes. IMO they should have like a 2 strikes thing.
One strike, they go to prison for the time necessary. (I think everyone deserves a second chance. As we all know, everyone makes mistakes.) And when and if they are released, they do something really bad such as rape, murder, attempted murder etc, then the death sentence should come into action.
If the murder was premeditated, then yes.
If it was a crime of passion, then no. A really long prison sentence will suffice.

Mistakes are made, and regrets are our luggage; we will drag them with us to slow us down.
The victories are flashes of light, sudden and unlasting, which allow us to glimpse the road ahead before darkness descends.
Love is bitter, yet it is the bread that keeps us. Over and over it fills us up, only to starve us.
The people whom we love shape our destinies and our strengths, yet leave us cold and alone in the darkness.
It's hard but I'm verging towards yes. It's actually the easy way out in many ways. My dad used to work in a prison and the suicide rate was very high because many view dying as better than being in a prison. Since when, if someone hits you, is it right to hit back? Taking someone's life is wrong, so surely the law should not also take life?
I think the 2 strike idea works too though

It is actually. Some people call it self defense, I call it reaping what you sow.
The law should be able to, so long as it's reasonable. If someone took a life then killing them would put things back in balance. It sets an example to those not in prison as well. Like, if you kill then you're going to die as well. Most people on the outside don't want to die. It also acts as a motivation of fear. Which could possibly save many lives and personally, I'd rather favor 100 innocent lives over 1 guilty one.
And here's a friendly tip:
White text means we can't read it without highlighting and that's annoying.

First question to ask oneself: What purpose does the punishment have? Revenge? Determent? Keep a potential offender away from society?
I think the vast majority is led by the revenge paradigm. Even though many won't admit that, society punishes according to the results, and not the possible outcome. If I run over someone with my car, it matters a lot if the person I ran over stays alive or not.
Death penalty makes sense to me if it saves the money it would cost to keep the offender in prison. And I doubt that, since the legal costs of all the legal proceedings (appeals and such) may very well be beyond the cost of plain prison.
And I'm not so much into revenge. As for the deterring effect, I think it's pretty much proven that beyond a certain level of punishment, it doesn't make any difference.
So the bottom line is that I can't see any point in killing someone. Listen to what families of murder victims have to say after the murdered has been executed. You'll rarely hear that they feel better.
To be honest theres always going to be that off chance that the person never commited the crime in the first place or was an accident but the judge never saw it that way. or even they decided to kill that person/persons to be killed themself. also why do you think execution got outlawed in the uk in the first place? anyone seen the film "let him have it" where a 18yo boy who had mental issues told his underage friend to "let him have it" ever meaning to give him the gun or shoot him and the boy shot the policeman then he got hung for it and the underage boy basically got off with it. so in my opinion unless they can guarentee 100% that that person did kill them intentionally for no other motive then for them to die then i say no to executions.
(sorry bit annoyed needed to rant about something)
I don't think it should be legal, some says it's equivalent exchange but every life is different. If anything those people should live everyday suffering and regretting and even then they should live with that suffering. Some criminals don't care if they die, so why give them death as a penalty?
