I honestly don't think it's possible to get an addiction to TV much these days. Even children know crap is crap.
But if children really do get addicted to TV then parents should do something about it.

TV in general does not addict kids to it the bright entertaining colors do. Studies show that the brighter and more "colorful" the screen is the more they'll watch it.

Parents are so happy when they get some quiet moments. TV, computer, the neighborhood's pedophile entertaining their child, who cares? As long as the children don't mess around, why worry about anything?

Salaam, Saif...

I don't think there's actual "addiction" to TV, but I'm using the precise definition of that.

I DO think that there's a (psychological or emotional) dependence on it...kids might THINK or believe they 'need' it....and for young people, I think it's a developed dependence on entertainment, the self stimulatory properties of TV (and the 'net).

Again, speaking from purely technical or actual terms here, I think that's because kids and young people's brains are still developing, and they 'crave' or are drawn to those things that are 1) entertaining... enriching in some ways, and 2) Soothing... that feel good. Makes sense when you think of kids!...the TV and the net and video games and such are so 'dependency creating' precisely b/c they are so keyed into the exact needs of kids, based on biology: They're soothing and stimulating.

This stuff about the 'Evils' of TV or the net don't really take into consideration the biology and psychology of young 'uns, that they become so entranced with this visual technology b/c they're wired for that, that it meets an instinctual need to explore and soothe...as well as be entertained. We are, after all, the 'thinking creatures'.

It's true that some are more vulnerable to the material being presented, all of us are pretty much hard wired to appreciate the influence of these technologies, FWIW. But 'addiction'...Nah. it's appealing b/c it's hitting biological buttons. Some harder than others.
