And I don't think so, I mean I'm an EXTREME animal lover but we aren't quite on the same level.
Are animals put way lesser then we are? Hell yes. And they shouldn't be put so far down, but they are lesser.

Animals aren't up there with us, they're still valuable, but we humans have a greater importance.
Not to mention, chickens are mighty tasty.
Animals are not like us. If an animal kills a human, it can't go on trial, it can't defend itself... but humans can.
We're more intelligent than other animals.

I think that humans are superior. I could give you a huge list of reasons why, but I will only give one.
Humans are sentient. Humans have the ability to reason and think. That is the major difference between them and animals. I am a huge animal lover, but humans are superior to animals.
