Default Mandarin, language of the future?

Mandarin, not only the most spoken language in the world, but one of the oldest. Mandarin has nearly double the amount of English speakers.

The writing system is shared between languages, therefore they can communicate with eachother via text. Image this, French, English, and Spanish all being able to write to eachother, cool right?

This thread I just want to discuss what you think of what Mandarin can become.

Imo, I think Mandarin will eventually be spoken in most countries. It'd take a while though, but eitherway I can see it happening.

doubt it.

Currently the best language to speak is English. High end CEO'S and other major people all learn English to help in a business environment. Yes it might be spoken by alot of people, but its highly concentrated in asia and china.

I just can't see this happen naturally, English is already somewhat of the "rich person" language.

I thought Mandarin was some sort of citrus fruit...

Anyway..*GOOGLES*

Oh so its some form of chinese then? I've actually never heard of it. English seems to be a very dominant language with most schools in differet countries teaching it as a second language. I doubt Mandarin will be like English in the future..

Well, the thing is, Madarin is really complicated to learn and is peaken only in a small part of the world. Wheres english is almost everywhere on the planet and it's one of the easiest language to learn.

People say the East is becoming more "westernized," and that includes language. So not to be ethnocentric, but English may become the most widely spoken language in times to come.

I think the reason Mandarin won't be the dominant language is because it's really not that widespread outside of China. It doesn't migrate well to other countries because it's a very complicated language as well.

Lol =3

Mandarin is also started being taught, though. And, even if the English-speakers DOUBLED, there would still be competition... :/

Well, considering China is a VERY rich country, and you said that it's spoken in China, it's pretty contridicting...

A very rich country but also a very radical wealth gap. The richest fifth of the nation earns 50 percent of the income and the bottom fifth only earns 4 percent of the income. The average income in rural areas is just 300$ a year and in urban areas it's 1000 dollars a year. Many speculate that this could cause civil and societal unrest in the future. Mandarin will flourish at a faster rate if that wealth gap closes.
