^ One weak link can kill a whole unit. I'd just be a weak link. Plus, I have no sense of honor and I don't really care if I let down other people. I do it anyways. I don't really want to become more than a man either. Life won't suck any less if I do. Personally, I don't see a problem with it.
And if you refuse, in the usa, They throw you in jail. Which is fine with me.
Oh you get something, but the military puts you in a very bad position. Such as in the front of a charge where getting out alive doesn't seem possible.
I remember reading something about that, if you're of age (18 I believe it was) they can just hall you out onto the battlefield.
If you're 18 and male they can. The draft is still there in case of a huge war, but obviously it isn't going to be used for every war.
But, yeah, if you're 18 and male and there's a big enough war then they can draft you. Provided you meet the physical requirements.
That being said, I'm a Narcoleptic and Cataplectic so I'd be useless in battle. Why? My episodes are typically triggered by an outburst of emotion and/or stress.
I'd be useless even as cannon fodder. =D
So I couldn't be drafted even if women were a part of it.
Though I will say if I didn't manage to flee the country and ended up in battle then I'd fight with what little I have for the sake of survival.
Or I'd turn "traitor" if it suited me to do so. Since, you know, I have no obligation to a country who would force me to do something I didn't want to do and was basically sacrificing my own life for the "greater good". But that would depend on the enemy.
At times like these I'm glad to medically incapable of doing much.

It isn't so much the country you are being a traitor to, its the people who support that country. There's people right now going around fighting for the US and its ideas. And you'd disregard them and their sacrifices for you own sake.
There is always the home front to worry about if there was such a major war.
@darkness, well the US doesn't have conscription, only the draft. Which only appears when there is a major conflict going on. Nowadays there isn't a large need for infantrymen due to technology. But this whole thread is hypothetical.

Every male citizen in the US has to register for the "selective services" on or shortly after their 18th birthday....
If this country was ever in a war so large with a shortage of troops and needed to implement the draft again. Then I would do my duty to my country and go fight.
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love."
- Washington Irving
Me? If my country was being invaded, or had a just casus belli, I would take up arms and fight, no question. If my country needs me, I'll be there. Plain and simple.
Not only would would I protect my country, I would protect the people I love. I can't do that if I run. I would fight, to the death if necessary; no one invades my country and lives.
Mistakes are made, and regrets are our luggage; we will drag them with us to slow us down.
The victories are flashes of light, sudden and unlasting, which allow us to glimpse the road ahead before darkness descends.
Love is bitter, yet it is the bread that keeps us. Over and over it fills us up, only to starve us.
The people whom we love shape our destinies and our strengths, yet leave us cold and alone in the darkness.
This actually makes me think. Even though it probably wouldn't ever happen, what if people on here faced off in battle? I wonder how that would end out.
^ well, it would matter what sorta battle.
But this thread isn't about who is better on the battlefield.
(id totally win that fight LOL =D)
Its WHAT would push you to fight, if you where ever fight in the first place.
I guess this is a moral question. God im so deep idk what im thinking haha

being drafted and your country being invaded are different things
if the country was invaded then yes i would defend myself and my country but being conscripted vietnam style where the war has no impact on daily life back at home, i would just run to france, live with my gran
