Generally in the United States, we have the following:
Pre-School (Optional): Prepares and help children adjust to public schooling when they go into elementary school (which, I will explain next). Pre-School is a readiness program to ensure the child will adjust well.
Elementary School (Required): The elementary school is mostly for young children. We have Kindergarten which is a basic level of helping children adjust to public schooling and help reinforce skills such as color identification, shape identification, and learning to get along with others. Children are usually the ages 4-11 while in elementary school. It depends on the registration date and the birth date of a child. It prepares for middle school/junior high.
Levels/Grade:
- Kindergarten
- 1st Grade
- 2nd Grade
- 3rd Grade
- 4th Grade
- 5th Grade
Middle School / Junior High (Required): This is usually geared towards pre-teens ages 11-14. It is a foundation for high school (which, I will explain next). It prepares students for high school and help students learn interests in what classes they wish to take.
Levels/Grade:
- 6th Grade
- 7th Grade
- 8th Grade
High School (Required): This is geared towards teenagers ages 14-18. It is four levels/grades that are important as everything at this point counts for a certain weight (grade point average/gpa). It determines if you're going to college or not. It depends on the level of difficulty you choose your classes in all reality.
Levels/Grade:
- 9th grade (Freshman Year)
- 10th grade (Sophomore Year)
- 11th grade (Junior Year)
- 12th grade (Senior Year)
College/University (Optional): This is geared towards students who wish to pursue a career that requires more education after you have finished high school. The ages are different and varies, mostly you will see 18 year olds and older attending. You need a certain GPA (grade point average) in order to enroll in college.
However, regarding the examinations - it depends on the school district/location.
