Default Do you believe transparent governments would create a better world?

I'm sure a lot of you have heard about WikiLeaks in the news, how various corporate companies severed any links to the whistle-blowing website; namely PayPal and Mastercard. This caused quite an uproar because this website was one of the online news sources that did, infact, report on the truth. A lot of big news outlets these days are extremely influenced by governments and heavily censored - I mean, the guys and girls up top don't want any sensitive information getting out, right?

Now, for me, WikiLeaks was my only way to get any legitimate news. They were a non-profit organisation, it didn't matter how many papers they sold, what stories were headlining - all that mattered was the content. The truth.

This leads me quite nicely onto the main topic of this thread: A transparent government. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that goes on in government (all the decisions, conflicts, etc) would be open for public view.

What's your opinion on this? Is the current government OK with you?
I'd love to hear your comments.

No, but I do believe it would be far better if governments were to exercise more transparency.

The reason why I disagree with a complete transparent government is because there are things that need to be kept secret for the good of the public. We do not need to know everything, and there are certain things I'm sure the governments do which may be of a detriment to us or to themselves if they were released publicly and our enemies could get hold of that information.

I do, however, think they should become more transparent. Incidents like "Collateral Damage" should have been made public, not hidden away like it was. At the end of the day, hiding it was more damaging to the government because not only did it happen, they got caught out. The people involved with the fucked-up big-time.

So yeah, I think a more transparent government is needed, but not one that releases too much information that may leave us or them vulnerable.

I think that it's important for the government to retain it's right to secrecy. Somethings are just better off not being revealed to the public. There are certain things that could throw the public into a frenzy when this is the last thing that the government and people really want. THere is also the problem of national security. Releasing certain things to the public poses a risk to not only those involved but also the public at large.

Governments should be allowed secrecy. I trust the government to try and make decent decisions. I vote them in, I can vote them out. Simple as that. If I don't know it, terrorists don't know it either. Yay for national secuirty

I think a transparent government could work to an extent, but as it was already stated no human government could be a truly stable government, but that is because humanity is depraved.
