I don't know if anyone in the UK has heard about what happened last night but there are helicopters going around there even now after a protest turned into a full scale riot. The local police had been undergoing an operation in the area and when they tried to stop one particular car to make an arrest, the man within fired a handgun at the officers who responded with their own weapons leaving the man dead. This incident sparked the riot turned protest which left 23 officers and 3 others injured by protesters torching cars, buses and buildings as well as looting many local shops and houses. My question is this: why did an originally peaceful protest lead to such disproportioned acts of violence?

It just got very intense because they were there the whole day nearly, and it just got the point where they turned to violence. Carpet right was burnt down and shops were looted here's some pics;
It's a shame because loads of those buildings were ancient. I thought it might also be in retaliation to that massive drug bust several days ago. I doubt it but people do have connections and were probably looking for an excuse to start a fight. Apparently there were kids as young as ten running out of that shop with carpets on their shoulders.

well the main thing getting me through is the hope that I'll be able to move to chicago. It's a much more manageable scale than london and the housing's cheaper. plus it has lake michigan right next to it (it's like having sea views it's so huge). where in new zealand?
I'm not sure yet, Joe and I are deciding between Australia and New Zealand.. if it was Australia then it would be Melbourne.. NZ we're still researching. But it's good you have an objective! I want to go to Australia or NZ for the green areas, weather and the accents! Hehe. I'd still have family in Australia and NZ, my aunt lives in Aus and Joe's brother lives in NZ.. so it's good. ^-^
Violent protests *facepalm*
What were they even protesting?
Oh yeah the way to get what we want is by showing them that its obviously the right thing not by debating and showing them that they're wrong, but by burning down a fucking Carpet Right.
Wouldn't expect anything else in England though, can't wait to move away.
Simple answer: Mobs supposedly have the upper hand due to numbers. There's more of them so more power over others.
Some people, however, just like to riot. Never underestimate the power of stupidity in numbers. Esp. teenagers because rebellion is cool don't you know!
When people get worked up, it's much easier to give in if someone else is doing it and it's a domino effect from there.
Short answer: mobs are stupid.
