Well, most of you know what immigrants are.

They are people who move to another country.

What are your thoughts on immigration policies and laws? What do you think about immigrants?

DISCLAIMER: US CITIZEN PERSPECTIVE ONLY.

Well, I'm of Mexican descent, and proud. I'm also, more importantly, proud to be an American. And as an American, I believe that all immigrants must come here legally for three keys reasons:

1) Disease- People from foreign nations bring diseases- these need to be documented, and just allowing people into the US sans checking is not a good thing. I worry for our citizens.

2) Social services- While I believe people of all nations should be allowed in here, no quotas whatsoever, we need to know if they are here legally so we can provide adequte social services, ie schooling, medicinal care, etc. If they skirt around the Census, they just clog the system.

3) Drugs- Illegal immigrants, most notably from Latin America, are notorious for their drug smuggling into the US- drugs are hugeeee problems, especially when not regulated. By searching them for drugs and keeping them accountable for their actions, legal immigration wins.

I am pro-immigrant- let them come in, and, if they work for it, take jobs from Americans- we were all immigrants at one point too. But they ought to come here fairly, and within the means of the US.

Interesting point of view, @Roadless.

My point of views on immigration is - I have no problem with immigrants moving to our country. However, I would like to see them do it legally and properly apply for citizenship without entering the country illegally.

There are certain cases where immigrants were forced to leave due to many factors (sex slavery happening in the country, government issues, etc).

The immigrants have the right as well as others to receive an education, and freedom. They're also entitled to their own beliefs and religion. Also, it creates a diverse population within the country which is great. There may be racial issues but people may not seem to be open and have different beliefs.

Also, the culture change for the immigrants are significantly difficult for immigrants to adjust to. However, I would like to see immigrants speak the native language of the country and adjust to some culture.

As Roadless stated, diseases need to be taken care of as well as health obligations (physicals, vaccinations up-to-date, etc).

When immigrants enter the country, they must have a reason to entering. Economic hardships are everywhere now a days, people need employment, but illegally entering a country is very wrong and consequences may be harsh.

All immigrants should have a verified and granted permission if they agree to the laws and regulations of that specific country.

Note: I'm the son of an immigrant so my viewpoint is inherently biased.

All immigrants should be legal of course. Illegal immigrants do hurt countries quite a bit in several ways. Illegal immigration is definitely a big issue that needs to be addressed. We should be more proactive in stopping illegal immigration, in my opinion. It's almost too easy to sneak over the US borders and the Border Patrol is severely underfunded for the most part.

However, the legal restrictions on immigration is almost too strict at times. The quotas for immigration are almost to restrictive in the number of people they let in. I think we should loosen these channels for certain groups of qualified people. I have family members who have gotten here legally but had to leave there child behind alone. The USA wouldn't allow the immigration of the child for several years because of the strict quota system for Filipino citizens. Exceptions should be made in cases like these and, as of right now, they aren't being made. I agree that there should be some quotas to prevent the overpopulation of the state but at the present moment, I think they are far to strict. I think and influx of legal immigrants has the potential to create a better economy to a degree. I also think that this relaxing of immigration quotas can help relieve some of the tension that causes a lot of the illegal immigration.

Immigration is key to our economy and our culture and society. Through legal means, immigration can help a country immensely.

I live in Arizona; illegal immigrants cross our borders daily, in the hundreds oftentimes. It's very frustrating to see the lack of protection the government provides for us American citizens when it comes down to illegal immigrants bringing drugs and weapons across the borders.

I have no problem with legal immigrants. Illegal immigrants, however, have no respect or sympathy from me. To be honest, you cannot understand how I (or many Arizonans feel) unless you truly experience illegal immigration up close, personal, and on a constant basis. Just three days ago, a house in my neighborhood was raided; fifty illegal immigrants were arrested, along with five illegals with drugs and three with semi-automatic weapons. This is a real and dangerous situation. Do you realize how close these people were to my family and my neighbors? With their weapons, they could have raided our houses, murdered us, stole from us, or taken us hostage. People that live on the very border oftentimes find themselves in altercations with illegal immigrants and many of them are threatened with weapons.

I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants. I apologize if my perspective offends anyone, but, as I said before, if you have never experienced it first-hand, you have no idea how serious of a situation it is.

Well, I live in Hungary, and since we're 'famous' of hating foreigners... We don't have much immigrants (44% of them live in my city, that's 5% of the city's population).

I believe that people should move free if they don't have disease, haven't been jailed, no drugs, etc. In the 21st century people should have the right to move free (like between the borders of the European Union).

I think immagrants are fine, we all live in the same world, why stick to one place? If people moved around more maybe there would be world peace. We all had to immagrate to places to get different countries to live in... Sorry, dont quite know how to word it.
Though i think it's wrong when immagrants move to a country just to get benefits...
It's also unfair that people living in seriously bad conditions feel they have to stay because some people hate immagrants.

We live in the same world, we should be able to go where we want.

I don't care as long as they come here legally and make the effort to abide by the law.

I'm going be 100% honest here, I am not racist at all. I have a problem with some Mexicans. There I said it. The nearest town(I live in the country) is about 70% Hipanic and they are almost all illegal, none of them speak english and none of them have jobs, they live off of welfare and the whole town has gone to hell, it is a dump. Recently INS was going to raid the downtown and word got out and there was not a single person out. I don't have any prejudice against legal Hispanics. I hope people will accept my opinion and not go all crazy on me.
