I understand that. And I could go either way on that because there are pros associated with a national official language. But, The public school system will move away from teaching foreign languages, in my opinion because it is still has government ties. And I'm not sure that's a good thing.
Should English, or the primary language in any nation, be made the official language?
I submit to you that if there is no objective grounds to the matter, there is no way an action on this question could be right or wrong. If we want to know what we should do in an objective manner, we need an objective standard, which is also going to require a grounding in something objective.
My issue is that a lot of times, I'll notice foreign people speaking whatever language and then turn around to me and speak to me in perfect English. I mean, if you can understand and speak it, why not use it?
I see it a lot working in retail and I think it's very rude when people come in my line speaking another language amongst themselves in front of me. It looks suspicious like they're hiding something or saying something that they don't want me to know about.
people can't stop speaking their language just for others to understand them, I don't speak English when my teacher enters the class and she has no right by telling to speak English either unless I am answering a question cuz it's her problem that she can't understand Arabic.
And it's rude if they were talking to you and then stopped and started speaking in another language ,, but if you're not included in their conversation then you have no right by saying that.
Fun fact, but when you press "2" for french, you have a higher chance of reaching an operator who can speak better English than those you get transferred to with the English choice.
People often forget how "deep" languages really are. Your very thoughts are in whatever language you grew up speaking, and it can be very difficult to learn a different language. Additionally, people sometimes prefer to communicate with one another in their native language because it's the one they feel most comfortable speaking, and they know they'll be able to speak freely without making mistakes and being silently judged.
Plus, I find that most of the people pushing to make English an exclusive official language do so out of xenophobic and jingoistic motivation. In other words, racist rednecks. Not everyone of course, but generally.
Okay, so this topic came up in my American History AP class. Should English be the official language of America?
Here's what I think: If you come to America, then you should learn English. I mean, it's okay if you don't. However, if you don't learn English, then you won't be successful. I don't feel like America should have to incorporate a class for Spanish speaking citizens in schools. And by that, I mean that for instance math class would be taught in Spanish as well as English. I think we should be more than happy to offer courses where people can learn English, but that's all.
If I went to another country, I would not expect them to know English. I would make an effort to learn ENOUGH of their language to get by.
What do y'all think?

Fill my toilet bowl, full of a cloudy puss
I feel the blood, becoming chowdered rust
i think the same as you think
if the country your living in... for example Spain
then you have to learn Spanish to communicate with others otherwise you wont be successful
as you said>
