That depends. How much are you proposing we tax them?

If we tax the rich, theyt leave the US, taking their sixeable spending with them. If we want to add taxes, add them to everyone. Stop discriminating the rich.

Not only that but it encourages people to not make as much money in order to stay out of the top one percent. Especially those in the lower section of the one percent. It's not encouraging growth of businesses that are driving the economy. So that, in theory, is a very negative effect of a hefty tax on such a small proportion of the population.

In the UK, we tax people who earn a higher income more so than those with a lower one, however, i totally disagree with this, so because people work harder the government has the right to take a higher percentage of their money? Just because it wont make them live in poverty? People work their asses off to make a lot of money so they can buy luxuries and then there's the people with no/low income getting free money from the government, paid by those who work hard. Why do they not work hard for their money too? All rich people deserve their money as they are the ones who have earnt it, how they have earnt it is irrelevant as long as it's legal.

Wow.

I never thought of that before.

Most wealthy people are generally philanthropic from what I know. I'm in the top 3% of the wealthiest people in the world, but I'm not ashamed of it because I know my family donates to trustworthy charities which help many, many disadvantaged people around the world. I don't know about the insanely rich with billions of dollars, but I'm sure they have their own charities and organizations through which they help the less fortunate people in this world. Imo, I think taxing them would probably discourage them from donating to charities and such because they're already having their money unwillingly taken away from them to help people who, in many cases, wouldn't deserve it entirely.

And then, what about those who work 10+ hours a day, but live in poverty? Yeah, my family is one of these - and don't say that we live in a 'shit' country, because I live in a developed country - and we live in poverty (even if we are in the better half)...
My step works 10-12 hours a day, my mother works 8 hours a day, both very hard, but still...

Then again I don't think politicians work their asses off totally... here, obviously not (30% goes to work at average)... Yeah, there is some rich who worked hard, that's true.

I go with: the richer, the more tax to be paid.
