Oh yes, lets just take away all the money these people made.

Sounds like a great plan.

I have an even smarter idea. Lets get some competent people in office to fix the budgetarty problems of the United States. Brilliant.

Capitalism breeds a wealth gap. Perhaps, justifiably so. Nothing new really. I suppose it depends on where you stand morally on such issues.

What? Let's do some math, 16 trillion times 3 million is 5.280000000000053e+36. Divide that by 700 billion. Each rich person would hardly lose much. These are the people living in mansions who make this much money in a day. A simple tax could easily get this much money in a month or two and will hardly create a dent in the riches pockets.

A lot of the people who make this sort of money don't deserve it, in my opinion.

*shrug* even if they don't deserve it, they earned it. Like Allan said, capitalism breeds disparities in wealth.

I'd rather have a slight disparity then all of us living in poverty. See: the USSR

I only need a few statistics to match your carefully thought out math, @Jakob: 9.4%, 14.7 trillion, and 2012.

All of these things have on correlation: things that Americans want reduced or to come quicker. Something that Americans don't want: Increased taxes.

There's a slight problem with that math. The picture is saying that the 3 million people collectively are worth 16 trillion. No single person in the world is worth even one trillion (according to Forbes that is). The richest man in the world is worth 74 billion dollars (Hes not american). So really it's 16 trillion divided by 700 billion (which is more than any one man can pay). Which is a sizable difference and the suggested tax would be lower. On a side note, there are some problems that would arise from imposing such a hefty tax on the rich in a capitalistic leaning mixed economy.

But this is 1%, they can afford the tax. I am not saying tax all Americans I am saying tax these people.
