In my opinion the "N" word should not be removed from school books because it takes away the history. The author put the word in there to emphasize the nature of the story. To take away this one word is to take away the enjoyment and glamour of the story.
Re: Should the "N" word be banned from school books?
Yeah, I don't think it should be banned. It gives us a perspective of what life may have been like in that time and place.

Re: Should the "N" word be banned from school books?
No it shouldn't. Just because people get butthurt over a word (which many use everyday anyway) doesn't mean it should be banned. It's not racist, that's just how people used to speak. It wasn't racist back then either, I should add.
And even if it was, pretending it never happened is stupid.

Re: Should the "N" word be banned from school books?
I agree, it shouldn't be removed from the history (or history related) books because it's, well, history.
I don't like the use of it in everyday language though, I don't see a need for it. But sadly @guitarguy1357 there are still plenty of people out there without sense (or brains...) that still use it purely to cause offence.

Re: Should the "N" word be banned from school books?
What I have heard is that people oppose this and say it should be banned for the knowledge of young children. I'm waiting to find someone to take this side even if they believe it shouldn't be banned. I would quite enjoy a nice debate to see the facts.
Re: Should the "N" word be banned from school books?
Young children don't need to know that much about history until they reach the late stages or primary school/early stages of high school.
Sure, they'll learn the basics of it and will know the main points, but these books are usually given to kids and teenagers 12+ to get the full details when they are mature enough to understand it. By that age they should know better than to use the word in an offensive manner anyway.

Agreed, there is no need to use it, but idiots are an unfortunate fact of life.
Re: Should the "N" word be banned from school books?
I don't know about anybody else. But I've never felt the urge or desire to use the word 'Nigger' offensively after reading any piece of literature that included it. I don't know anyone else who has either. So arguing that it may influence children to use it is just ridiculous. The word doesn't appear in any books we read until we're teenagers, and by then I'd think most of us are mature enough so as to not use it just because we saw it in a book. With the exception of a few of course, as always.
