Default Affirmative Action

I personally believe it's stupid and irrelevant now. The person hired for a job should be the person who is most qualified for the job; gender, age, and race, especially, should not be the deciding factors of how competent or incompetent a person's capability is.

I would like to hear some opinions who agree or disagree with my own on the topic of affirmative action.

Completely agree. Those factors shouldn't- in most cases- effect the capability of someone working. So they shouldn't really be taken into account, just the qualifications (etc.) they have.

I don't think stupid is the right word. Aff Action did help a lot of minorities originally find work, especially when the schooling in minority areas were extremely lackluster and lacked federal and state funding. However, I do agree that the system is outdated.

I disagree with you that the most qualified person should get a job. Ineveitably, a company is looking to fit a profile- if you don't fit that profile, despite how well qualified you are, you don't qualify for that position.

But, I do agree that it should not be used for college acceptances.

*shrug* alright, stupid still isn't the right word. Like, just because something is outdated doesn't make it "stupid". It still helps some people.

Because we're still "sad" about the way things were 47 years ago (1964).

Well, it is stupid NOW. What it means and does now is way different than what it meant and did then. It should be repealed and I think "stupid and irrelevant" are two perfect terms to convey my point.

Other then the "lack of fairness", what other negative effects has it brought for our country?

Isn't that a great enough reason to repeal it? lol
