Could be a debate, but it's more news than anything. Recently I was surfing TGWTG and this pop-up saying the site was blocked came up and I was all like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" but then I realized it was just to let people know that it was a possibility.
This link [thatguywiththeglasses.com] [thatguywiththeglasses.com] and all things in it (videos and other links to the main site) explain it better than I could. But basically, it's supposed to prevent piracy but the bill is so vague that it's basically about controlling sites if there's even an inkling of a suggestion of copyrighted material.
The second video explains it all very well.
All in all, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. And while this has good intentions, it would hurt the internet rather than help it. Not to mention the internet is international. That in and of itself would cause complications.
Not only would Americans be shut off from international sites that even mentioned copyrighted material, but many people not from America would lose access to American-based websites that they love due to this issue.
Long story short, if you have a huge site, take YouTube for example, where a lot of people use CR material, the site could lose funding and even be blocked despite the fact many people use it for self-expression and free-speech.
So basically, it's like punishing a group of children for the misbehavior of one child.
Anyway, just go to the link. Yes, it's TGWTG, the main video makes a point, scroll down and you'll see much more.
On top of it all, you can got thrown in jail for 5 years for singing a pop song.

At school we had to deliver speeches. Among the topics to chose from was the debate of privacy vs. Security. I choose privacy because the media and the government are oblivious to what the real threat is despite the enemies saying what their intentions are:
Oh boy time to go on a debatefest!
^ Quick question... I get the security vs. privacy thing, I've had the conversation with my dad many times, but what exactly does that have to do with censorship right now? Or more exactly, what do you mean by "threat" and "enemy" in this context?
Just trying to get a clear understanding of what you're saying is all.

^ I have a rough idea as it is but I don't exactly have time for it at the moment, so could you give the short version?
I'm aware of the life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness thing if that's what you're talking about. Quite frankly, I'd rather not ask my dad to barrow his books right now. It would lead to a long-ass conversation and I have to go to work soon.

John Locke: Political philosopher, 1600s, two treatises of government (1689).
State of nature isn’t that bad, really doesn’t exist. Probably wasn’t that bad had rights. There was a higher being. Not safe, but they weren’t really just killing everything. Let’s not make Leviathin! Write up some ideas, make fun government, make a contract with the government
Contract: You protect our things; we pay you for it (i.e. taxes)
Natural Rights: Life, Liberty, and Property G-d given rights Influential thinker for Founding Fathers
Obligation to Revolt: If there is government abuse, we can get rid of the government.
from a lecture I sat in once:
"A toothache, or a violent passion, is not necessarily diminished by our knowledge of its causes, its character, its importance or insignificance".- T.S. Eliot
