I would say overall, it was a failure, and the only reason American's got involved was the fear that communism would take hold.

The good outcome of the Vietnam war, was that Nixon was able to use it to create the gap between the two communist superpowers, the USSR, and China, who is now more capitalist then they would like to admit.

I often don't have a rhyme or reason, only a rhythm.

As a side note here, Many experts on China insist that many of the members of the communist party no longer actually believe that they are working towards Communism. The official party line is that Socialism is 100 years down the road and in the mean time they can use any capitalist trick in the book. However, there are signs that many of the officials are starting to talk about Democracy. This is a more popular sentiment among the so called "princelings". For example, Bo Xilai has repeatedly mentioned a transition to Democracy. There have also been movements in China that show that sections of the population are demanding political reform (such as Charter 08).

Alot of people are talking about the Domino effect.

I want to ask so what about the Domino effect? Even if Vietnam turned communist(which is what happened) What are they going to do? Vietnam doesn't seem to me like a place to fight the war on communism ether.

The entire doctrine of Vietnam was total bullcrap. The goal was to kill as many enemies as possible. But clearly that didn't work or win us the war. It only got tons and tons of people killed.

Forgive the crappy grammar!

I would like to have seen more South Vietnamese make it to America.
