I was reading a book for school about Vietnam. It brought some ideas into my head on a good debate topic. So here it goes =P
Do you think Vietnam was a war the US should of gotten involved in?
Take into account that:
the US "lost" the war, Vietnam was already in civil war and the ONLY reason the US got involved was to stop communists, but the communists where not "bad guys". Charlie was only fighting for their independence and saw the US as another foriegn power that was trying to take them over.
Forgive the crappy grammar!

we should not hav got involved we lost good men to that war for wat reason?
so that another country could take over another country no where near us?
i understand the whole thing fight for democracy but unless it is going to involve us we should not get involved

The distance of Vietnam from the U.S is irrelevant. Cold War events would affect the U.S no matter what as they, and the U.S.S.R, were the two superpowers at the time. Vietnam was in the middle of a civil war, where North Vietnam were fighting to become a Communist state with the support of Communist allies like the Soviet Union. South Vietnam were resisting with the support of the U.S and other anti-Communist nations.
The U.S feared that their theory of 'The Domino Effect' would be carried out. Basically, this is where one country falls to Communism and then many others follow after it. So the U.S getting involved would be a way to prevent the spread of Communism through this Domino Effect, which is all part of their 'Containment' strategy.
Anyways, this is all I really remember from last years history lessons. But yeah, it definitely did involve the U.S. I suggest you read more on the subject.

Although the USA was responsible for some absolutely disgusting war crimes in Vietnam, they thought that if communism was to gain states, it would cause a domino effect, meaning that more and more countries in Asia would start becoming communist.
The USA say that had to intervene, because they needed to stop this domino effect.
All Communist states crumble after time, why not just let them turn Communist for a bit?
Well, they don't crumble, they just don't stay communist: they tend to turn into dictatorships, or at least North Korea did. I'm not entirely sure that China is wholly communist either.
Vietnamese: It was a good decision, it stopped the war and saved many civilians in the long run (but not during the war, what with all the napalm and stuff)
American: bad decision, it showed they are not as strong as they thought they were, they killed lots of civilians, and it lowered moral by quite a bit.
But it did make technology develop very quickly, because when there is a war technology develops and evolves quicker than at any other time, and if it wasn't for America entering the war, some of the technology we have today wouldn't be around
I am getting good at video making, come and give me tips and show love on YouTube

Its too early to tell. I honestly think that it was an American war in the beginning. After that, after we say that communism would eventually fall, no, it was a stupid, useless war.
