that Christianity is hateful and that it's not a nice religion to follow.
Well he failed... quite miserably, actually. He is much better educated than most think; I agree, but he's clearly pretty out of his depth when it comes to logic and critical thinking. Please see this thread for discussion on whether or not God is good.
Secondly, of what relevance to the truth value of a religion is whether or not it is "a nice religion to follow"? None, of course.

Religion is what increases our spiritual power. It helps us mediate and makes us feel relaxed when we are having trouble. But being an extremist is the problem, people think of religion as a strict behavior and follow it because of others do it. Religion is for us people to help our selves spiritually but people mix this and implement it to extreme on everything. Helping others, being good is what religion teaches us and care for humanity.
My point is that it should not be extreme just for personal and spiritual need and relaxation. Its you and your God. No one has the right to chide you neither should you do the same in any respect weather religion or any other matter.

So in order to be considered a "good" person and to care for humanity, one must follow religion?

You ain't ‘customed to going through Customs, you ain’t been nowhere, huh?
But so does a good upbringing; good parents teaching right from wrong.
You don't need religion to be a good person or care for humanity.
Of course, those are just other factors. Religion is one as well.
I think what she's saying is that people's ideas and opinions concerning religion are distorted due to much publicized extremism, and they forget or overlook the part where religion teaches us how to be loving, caring etc.

Taking someone who has no religious association and trying to force it on them won't make them a better person or enable them to love people more etc.
Who's to say that I love my husband less than some christian loves his/her partner simply because they have beliefs that I don't?
People's ideas of religion may be distorted, however; again, You don't need religion to know how to or enable you to care for someone or be a good person.
In fact, from my understanding, the bible speaks of hate almost as much as it speaks of love. IMO, religion is nothing but having faith in something that nobody will ever be able to prove and living by another set of rules that really, can be canceled out by general morality that has been established within society WITHOUT the influence of religion.

I don't know where you got any of this from what's been said...
