My mistake, mate. Didn't mean to be offensive. My apologies.

As the most powerful nation on earth, you have a humanitarian duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Says he, who on Skype claims there are no objective morals. You sir, are rather expectantly contradictory.
A subjective moral duty then, perhaps?
Regardless, I think we do have some form of duty to protect those in other countries... I don't think "sending the troops in" would really help though. Perhaps we should try political relations first?
And whether other countries also have a duty to help isn't particularly relevant, I don't think. If we're walking down the high street and we see someone being attacked and there are other people around, do we just let the other people deal with it? What if we have reason to believe that the other people (e.g. China) won't help? Do we still just "walk by" because "it's their duty too" and ignore the fact that they probably won't actually help?

As a European, I must say that the situation in Syria is quite worrying. The dictator's regime is repressive, despite the revolt of the people, we are in a clear case of crime against humanity. After reaffirming our leadership in Libya (in France), I am, however, unless "for" intervention in Syria. It's too dangerous, our soldiers in Lebanon were attacked. We must find a way or another a solution to all this and not necessarily through the United States of America. You have already done too much, it is a little time for Europe to act as well? However, I fear that in case of intervention in Syria, we have Iran on the back, and it would be dangerous.
No, we would not risk war to Syria perfect, far from it.

The idea is to put political pressure through different channels to force military mobilization. I would say that most countries do not have enough political leverage in Syria right now to make a difference through conventional political channels. Furthermore, The USA, traditionally, does poorly in conflicts that the people do not support, which would be the case in this situation. Furthermore, the USA is already spreading their military pretty thin. Other countries could deal with the situation more effectively. The PLA, while mainly concerned with keeping the party in power and dealing with organizational issues, have no pressing military obligations and their budget isn't being utilized to it's potential. To go even further, there is no reason to believe China would not do anything if enough international pressure is put on them. The CCP has a preoccupation with image, especially in the international community. As I stated before, this can be seen in the Sanlu and the SARS crisis. The CCP would look much more admirable out of the country. We don't have reason to believe they won't help out. And they are a country that is well equipped to deal with the issue right now. Since we do have good reason to think they would help out, I think it is particularly relevant.
