Icon8 Prisons/Jails Should Be More Strict

Jail should be a lot worse than it is today. They shouldn't be rewarded for being 'good', in prison, but they should be punished for being bad.

It bugs me how the prisons in the UK are so easy. Playstations, TV's, games etc...

They shouldn't get any of it and have to sit their punishment.

Thoughts?

Where are you getting this from? Link to an article about people in prison getting Playstations?

In the United States, 27% (Time Magazine, 12/24/11)of the population is incarcerated. The majority of them are repeat offendeders. Thats because the US Justice System is such absolute shit. The conditions of US jails are bloody awful, and a lot of the time, they actually increase gang connections. If anything, I disagree with you, at least about in the USA. There should be more rehab and less jail time.

Norway also has one of the lowest recidivism (repeat offense rate) in the entire world.

They must be doing something right.

It totally depends on the individual and what prison/jail your talking about, It's bloody impossible to put every person in jail/prison and every jail/prison in the same category for the debate. Some are way bloody harder on the inmates, and some inmates are WAY worse then others. I think some of the ones who truly feel guilty and it eats them alive etc should at least be able to work towards earning things. I mean, yes what they did is beyond horrible most of the time... but it's a life in jail... you never really understand how hard it is till you are there. I mean you all teenagers bitch on here and crap about how you have no lives or you couldn't go out this weekend, or you feel trapped in your own home even though you go to school, kay well you feel that trapped and you actually have a home, tv, computer, family, school etc. Imagine four white walls and a shitty bed 24/7. That would mentally fuck up ANYONE. Of course some of the higher level ones like, serial killers id have a much much much harder time seeing them get those, but then again we have to think they're humans just like us, they aren't monsters even though we like to call them that to help with our grief and anger. So, every fear or loneliness we'd get in prison, so do they. Often people who commit crimes are in a rage or a cloud and after they realize and it's so hard to cope with that on its own, what you did, not to mention the life style of being in prison all your life. So again, I'm kinda for it as long as they work for it. Even if they're getting a tv or a game it doesn't compare what so ever to real life. You spend a week in jail with a xbox and tell me it's still a nice place to live, it aint, even if your in that decent norway prison. you're still locked up and cut off and suffocating from your own thoughts and solitude. Solitude is a SCARY ass bitch man... try being locked in a room for 48 hrs with nothing but white walls and a bed.. it will mess you up.

So yeah, it depends on the degree of what he committed and what level felony he's being charged for. Even if some people did sick sick sick sick things, our brains could do the same thing. (Unless obviously they have a killer or psycho brain)

So I do think they should be able to earn some things sometimes. Cause even if it's just an hr for a day it's not like they all have it 24/7. It's like a reward so much a day for so much work, etc.

I kind of skimmed this. Basically, Kate, if you do the crime, you do the time. A better solution, for the US in particularly, is to decriminalize drutg offenses, so you don't have somewhat non-violent offenders going fucking insane.
