You either know it as climate change, global warming, or a steaming pile of bullshit. Throughout the post, please consider climate change and global warming to be synonymous to make life easier. Whether you believe or disbelieve the science (or perhaps lack thereof) involved in proving the existence of man-made climate change, please post below and/or vote in the poll.
I'm just interested in what you guys think about it and whether you actively do anything to prevent it from occurring. There's no need to link to various sources unless you want to, so it's up to you.
Keep in mind some key questions when answering:
Do you think the media provides a fairly accurate portrayal of the implications and current effects of global warming or do they hype it up to purposely create fear?
Do you consider yourself fairly knowledgeable of climate change?
Why do you believe it to be factual or untrue?
Have you watched any documentaries such as Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, and if so, did you find it helpful or rubbish?
Don't feel pressured to answer all these questions though. I just want a rough idea of what people think, though in depth discussion is definitely welcome.
I'm not knowledgeable on climate change, I'll put that out there now.
However I'm in Midwestern Ontario.
Canada
Canada=Snow in Winter; no?
This time last year, we had 4-5 feet+ of snow by halloween.
This year? It's barely been cold enough to snow at all and it's January.
When it has snowed, it's disappeared by the next day.
It's one of, if not the warmest season on record.
It makes me think just a little bit that maybe they're onto something.
Yeah annual variation means there must be global warming...
An ice-age is any period in which we have polar ice-caps, we are currently in an ice-age. The world has gone in and out of ice-ages over time. If polar ice-caps melt, then so be it. I'm not fussed.
It makes me think just a little bit that maybe they're onto something.
Well, the variation in the weather in specific parts of the globe as well as the overall climate suggests that both weather and climate are susceptible to change. But does this mean that humans are causing it?
Very nice links. As time goes on, it seems more and more scientists have denied the theory of global warming and done research to discredit the theory.
Of course the media is either misleading or wrong about climate change: "the media" is almost guaranteed to be either misleading or wrong wrt everything.
I honestly don't know much about climate change, and so I believe it to be true because I am under the impression that the majority of specialists in the relevant areas believe it to be true. I'm in no position to weigh up the evidence myself wrt such a complex issues (and the same applies to most of us here), and so I'm playing a game of probability. And - again - the same applies to most of us wrt most scientific issues if we're honest: none of us have really sat down and properly weighed up all the evidences. We don't know and so we make educated guesses about who we believe is more likely to be correct.

The world has heating and cooling periods. It has been that way since the universe began. All of the media BS is just a crock to drain funds from people's pockets.
I have done a few speeches and other things on climate change, and the research I have collected basically leads to the conclusion that humans did not cause this change, but we have sped up the cycle a bit. At the current time, with the world left unchecked, we should be entering another mini-ice age, but we are instead heating up, we have kind of bypassed that whole scenario.
We did not cause this warming period, but we have added fuel to the fire, so to speak.
Well, I'm planning to be a Climatologist (one plan), so I'm quite knowledged on this. As it was mentioned before, I believe that we sped it all up. Media is media, which likes making an elephant of everything. So, believing anything because of the media is simple silly.
So, yeah - we, humans are 'guilty' for making OUR climate warmer, even if it would have changed otherwise.
