4chan isn't down. It goes down occasionally because the server hardware it's hosted on sucks shit, but that's obviously for technical, not legal reasons.

The FBI has arrested people for posting CP on the site, but 4chan really isn't liable for user-generated content. It's against the global rules and they have moderators who enforce them.

Yeah. It's like someone posting illegal content to Facebook. The content gets removed, and the person gets punishment, not Facebook themselves. All content on 4chan is completely user based, which makes moot and others not liable.

The problem with the group Anonymous is that any idiot with an agenda can claim that the collective supports them. For the most part, Anonymous is a bunch of "hip 20-somethings" with their political mindsets and doesn't like anything that doesn't agree. While it isn't bad itself, when you get a bunch of idiots grouped together under a banner of nobody knows, idiotic stuff starts to spew.

Besides, once you have a name and a face, you can't exactly call yourself Anonymous, now can you?
