I didn't read the story but from what i know (in US) you have the right defend yourself with proper force (paraphrasing not quoting ... in other words if somebody breaks in your house and you have reason to believe they are gonna kill you then you can kill them but if you get atacked on a subway by a strange person tickling you and you start laughing so bad that you are gonna piss your pants and that will embarrass you and you will die of embarrassment, well you don't have the right to blow the ticklers brains out). In other words the "punishment" kinda has to equal the crime. That's the law I am quite sure. For me, i dont think a person should die for bullying but I sure would like to beat many down.

I think stabbing would be permissible if it saved his life. However, he should not have stabbed him just because he was being bullied. However, the bully still was in the wrong.
